Special egg helps blind children join the hunt
An Easter egg that beeps. As simple as it sounds, the beeping Easter eggs developed by electronics experts at the Michigan State Police Crime and Laboratory facility in Sterling Heights will make Easter morning a joyous event for several blind youngsters.
"This really wasn't that hard to do," said Detective Sgt. Timothy R. Ketvirtis while watching 3-year-old Acer play with a beeping egg. "We put this thing together in 10 minutes."
State police were called by Acer's mother, Heather Bowman-Tomlinson of Sterling Heights. She was looking for a way for her son to enjoy Easter.
She said she went on the Internet looking for beeping eggs. She was advised to call her local police bomb squad for help.
Bowman-Tomlinson said she called Rose Prince, administrator of the crime laboratory, who put her in touch with the electronics experts. Ketvirtis said he glued together an electronic circuit board and connected it to a 9-volt battery.
